So that the app can remember where a student is up to, MathGap saves the following on the device:
Unless the student has joined a centre (below), this information never leaves the device. Uninstalling the app deletes it permanently. You can also erase a student's progress from inside the app using Start over, and remove a whole profile from the profile switcher.
A tuition centre that uses MathGap can create a centre on our website and receive a join code. A student who enters that code in Settings → Centre, together with a label — usually a roll number — joins the centre. From then on the app sends that student's practice progress to our server after each practice session, so the centre's teacher can see it on a dashboard. This is the only situation in which any learning data leaves the device.

Only the teacher who owns the centre the student joined, on the centre
dashboard at centre.mathgap.in. Teachers see summaries — the
gap the student started from, how much of their plan is done, what was
mastered this week — not a record of individual questions. We do not use
this data for anything else, and we do not share it with anyone.
On a server we operate, sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, with the student's access token stored only as a one-way hash. The data is deleted when the student leaves the centre in the app, when the teacher removes the student, when the centre is deleted, or automatically after 12 months without a sync. Nightly backups are kept for 14 days and then age out.
Because the app collects nothing that identifies a child, and because joining requires a code that only the centre can provide, we rely on the tuition centre to obtain a parent's consent as part of its enrolment, in the same way it does for the register it already keeps. A parent who does not wish their child's progress to be shared can simply not join, or tap Leave centre at any time; nothing on the phone is affected.
Teachers sign in to the dashboard with an email address and a one-time code sent to it — there is no password. We store the teacher's email address, the centre's name and its join code. One-time codes are sent through Brevo, an email delivery service, which processes the address for that purpose only. A teacher can delete the centre, with all its students' synced data, from the dashboard or from centre.mathgap.in/delete-account without signing in. Deletion is immediate.
All the learning in MathGap works offline. Every practice question, worked solution and worksheet is generated on the device by the app itself. The placement test, daily practice, revision, Maths in Life and printable worksheets all work with no internet connection at all.
The internet is used only for:
MathGap can show one reminder a day to practise, at a time you choose. This is switched off unless you turn it on, and can be turned off again at any time in Settings. The reminder is scheduled entirely on your own device; nothing is sent or received to make it work.
MathGap contains no advertisements and no third-party analytics or tracking software. Google Play provides us with anonymous, aggregated statistics such as install counts and crash reports; these come from Google Play itself, never identify individual users, and are covered by Google's privacy policy.
MathGap is designed to be used by school students, including children under 13. Children never create an account, never enter a name, email, phone number or date of birth, and the app never reads a device identifier. There is no advertising and no chat or social feature. Where a child joins a tuition centre, the only thing the child provides is the label the centre asks for — normally a roll number — and the centre obtains parental consent as part of enrolment.
The one paid feature, unlimited printable worksheets, is a tool for parents and teachers rather than for children. It is clearly labelled as a purchase and asks the user to check with an adult first, and payment is handled entirely by Google Play, which applies its own purchase controls and any parental approval the family has set up.
We do not sell, rent or trade any information. The only sharing that happens is the one described above: a student who joins a centre shares their practice progress with that centre's teacher. Brevo delivers teacher sign-in emails on our behalf and Google Play handles purchases; neither receives any student data.
If MathGap adds a feature that changes what is collected, this policy will be updated before that feature is released, and the date at the top of this page will change. This version adds the optional centre sync described above.
